Technology that allows you to transmit voice calls as digital data packets through IP networks rather than use the traditional method that sends analog signals sent along the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). This is different from a dynamic IP address, which is the standard provided by ISP’s and assigned whenever your device connects to the Internet. Often times with a new IP. A constantly rolling IP address is fine for general internet use. Connecting sensitive and secure server equipment a static IP should generally be used.
